Fused Glass Geisha

Today I am looking at Fused Glass Geisha Diffuser/Bud Vases.

I am at High Point Fall Market and as with previous trips, I am in heaven.  Yesterday, I spotted these adorable Fused Glass Geisha Diffuser/Bud Vases at Global Views.  Actually, I forgot that I was in a showroom when I saw them and I may have squealed slightly a little bit loudly when I saw them.  Once again, proving my ability to act like a complete professional in public places.

There are 4 different Fused Glass Geishas.  Each one represents a different season; Summer, Spring, Winter, and Autumn.

The Spiritual Kiss

Today I am looking at The Spiritual Kiss by Julian Podmore of Australia’s Leadlight Craftsman.

Art Deco.  That’s the style that comes to my mind when I look at Julian’s stained glass.  This contemporary stained glass is bursting with detail and color.

According to Julian, “the project was about 3000mm x 450mm and featured mainly Lamberts Glass.  The glass was hand painted, sandblasted and silver stained. Basically it had to be romantic, gentle with a spiritual component. Therefore I used  the style of one of the branches from Klimt’s’ ‘Tree of Life’ as a tile to balance the design above and below without interfering with the beauty of the window. It is certainly one of my favourite pieces I have made to date.”  That’s saying quite a lot since Julian has over 25 years experience with the design and manufacture of leadlights and stained glass.

Bottoms Up

Today I am looking at glass bottle bottoms.

In my younger days, I would have seen more than my share of bottle bottoms over the weekend.  I am not so much a party girl these days.  I’ve retired.  Still, I like all of these clever ways to show off colorful glass bottle bottoms.

Fabulous Foyer

Today I am looking at a clever foyer.

I am filing this one under “A” for Awesome.

What do you do when you live in an older home and would like to create a foyer to separate the entrance to your home from the living spaces that are located nearby?  Yep, use glass.

IT IS FRIDAY!!!!!

This week was a bit of a challenge for me.  I returned from my mini-vacation (sad) and it seemed like nothing at work would go the way I needed it to (stressful).

This weekend I am going to laugh and be thankful for the little things that go wrong that I can fix.

Have a fun weekend and laugh a lot 🙂

I will see you back here on Monday.

Thriller Thursday, Part 1

Today is Thriller Thursday!

Halloween is in the air.  I’m listening to Michael Jackson sing, Thriller, while I am typing this blog [pause and click for a few dance moves].

The next few Thursday’s leading up to Halloween I’ll be looking at unusually beautiful ghoulish glass.

Today I’m looking at Seattle Glass Monuments.  A headstone, tombstone, or gravestone is a marker that is placed over a grave.  These markers are always included in Halloween decorations.   Seattle Glass Monuments makes beautiful glass grave monuments.  There’s nothing scary about these tombstones!

Lighted Room Dividers

Today I am looking at lighted room dividers.

b388ef723e353bb265f38c9e110a0f48

I’ve started to write this blog post more than three times this morning.  I’ve been a bit all over the place with my searches today.  Brain fog.

I discovered a Pinterest board that featured Mid Century lighted room dividers and I have to admit, I got a little obsessive about them.  I live in an older home that has small rooms.  They say that you always want what you don’t have.  I dream of a home with wide open spaces that are open to each other.  Think big industrial loft.  No doubt, if I had one, I would feel the need to divide the rooms into smaller spaces.  Yep, call me Whackadoodle.

I would love to see a newer, updated version of these retro room dividers.  Modern versions with metal, glass, and pendant lights.  I’ll be heading to High Point Market next week and I am adding room dividers to my list of things to look for.  I will let you know if I find one (or two) to share with you.

In the meantime, take a look at my newest Pinterest board, Lighted Room Dividers.

Embeded Glass Fireplaces

Today I am looking at reflective glass embedded into brick mortar joints.

Wow, talk about decorative detail!  I found photos of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Meyer May house fireplaces on the Michigan Stained Glass Census website.  The Meyer May House is located in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  I am in awe of the skill that was required by the mason to apply these glass embeds.  I think that it was worth the effort.

Another innovative use of glass involved Wright’s design of the fireplaces—one in the master bedroom and one in the living room. Wright had masons embed bands of autumnal-hued iridescent glass in the mortar joints. When the glass catches the light a certain way, it “appears to dissolve in the light and only the bricks remain.

Surf City or Bust

708c013486048bd3c02c294310b4a1d1

I’m off to the beach for a few days of hang out with my best girlfriends in the whole wide world.  I wish the time would crawl along slowly.  Somehow, I know that it won’t.  I am grateful for the time that we get to spend together.

Enjoy yourself while I am away.  Have fun, stay out of trouble, and be confident!

I will see you back here next week.

Organic and Delicate

Today I am looking at glass and metal artwork by Gillian Hobson.

I first saw Gillian Hobson’s glass pinned on Pinterest.  I immediately went to her website, took a look at her work, and knew that I had to send her an email and ask permission to share a few of her pieces with you.  Thankfully, she agreed.

Gillian Hobson is a British artist, working across a range of different contexts
and media. Approaches embrace three dimensional works, craft
practices, installation, photography, moving image and sound.

Gillian’s intricate metal and glass pieces have such an organic and delicate feeling.  As wall art or garden sculpture, I think these beautiful pieces of glass art are brilliant.
