Can You Tell Me The Time?

Today I am looking at Cergy – Saint-Christophe train station in France.

Here is something never heard at this train station…Can you tell me the time?  I love that the main feature of the train station are gigantic clocks.

Cergy – Saint-Christophe is a railway station located in the city of Cergy, France. The station built by Philippe Deslandes opened on 29 May 1988 along with Cergy – Préfecture station…

The station building is a large glass structure placed above the line at street level and comprises metal and glass cylinder and Europe’s largest clock.

Bright Ideas

Today I am looking at a beautiful Painted Metal and Glass Table Lamp by Max Ingrand for Fontana Arte in 1955 that I found on Pinterest.

Here is another great looking lamp by Donald Deskey / ca. 1927 / Glass, chrome-plated brass and wood / at the Met.

and finally…LALIQUE CLEAR AND FROSTED GLASS ENTRELACS LAMP / Circa 1926

IT IS FRIDAY!!!

What are you doing this weekend?

It is rainy here at Looking At Glass headquarters this morning so, I am getting ready for the holidays by decorating the Christmas Tree and the rest of the house. I always like taking everything out of the storage boxes and remembering where all of the decorations came from. I have one of those Christmas trees with ornaments from many years past. It always makes me happy and a little sad all at the same time. It is worth the effort, though. Tonight I will put on the Christmas music, turn off the lamps, make a cup of spice tea,  and enjoy a tree full of memories.

I hope you have a very special weekend full of holiday memories!
I will see you back here on Monday.

The Red House

Today I am looking at the Red House at Painswick Rococo Gardens,  Gloucestershire, UK.  What beautiful windows this charming structure has.  According to the Painswick Rococo Gardens website, “The Red House is today a popular venue for civil wedding and partnership ceremonies.”  I can see why.  I think this building is full of beauty and enchantment.

Glass Duo. The Sequel

When you find something you love, it is natural to want to look at it over and over. Last year I shared a video of Glass Duo‘s rendition of Sugar Plum Fairy.

Each year I replay this video and it always makes me smile. I love watching the musicians play the glass harp and the sounds that they are able to produce. If you missed my blog post last year or just want to enjoy it again, click on the photo below to watch the video via my Pinterest GlassChat Holiday Party board.

Glass Duo has reached “Rock Star” status here at Looking At Glass. I mean really, who else would I listen to while writing this blog?

The GlassDuo was founded by Anna and Arkadiusz Szafraniec. They are the only glass music group in Poland, one of few professional ensembles worldwide. They have brought their glass music to the stages of many renowned concert halls. By rejecting stereotypes they have enriched the music world with sounds which are subtle, sophisticated and truly unique.

Glass Wax

Today I am looking at a funny old holiday Glass Wax video.  I found this video last year and pinned it to the Glasschat Holiday Party Pinterest board.  I don’t know why I think it is so silly, but it makes me laugh every time I watch it.

IT IS FRIDAY!!!!

C’mon you can smile, the weekend is almost here.

What are you doing this weekend?

I’m going to start decorating my house for the holidays.  I always end up planning to do so many crafty holiday projects.  In the next day or two I will realize that in order to finish it all, I should have started these projects back in July.  Major disappointment.  I can’t really say that it is the result of procrastination.  It is more the result of not even thinking about the holidays until after the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Maybe, I’ll ditch the long project list and just watch silly old Christmas movies.  It’s a whole lot easier and so much less disappointing.

I hope you have a cheerful weekend!

I’ll see you back here on Monday.

Dreams of Wealth and Warmer Weather

Today I am looking at a breezeway created by large horizontal bi-fold doors.

There is frost on the fields surrounding my house today.  It is cold.  And, I didn’t win the PowerBall lottery.  I’m feeling a bit deflated this morning.  sigh…

If I suddenly came upon a fortune I would make a number of changes to improve my home.  I live in an older home and would love to add a new addition to it.  I decided long ago that a breezeway would be the perfect way to join a new addition to the existing structure.  Dreaming of the new addition made me take notice of this lovely breezeway shown on Houzz to use for the addition.

I am adding this system to my “WHEN I WIN THE LOTTERY” list and will keep dreaming of warm weather and high-dollar windfalls.

BG Follies 2012

Today I am looking at the holiday window displays at Bergdorf Goodman.  In particular, the spectacular rotating mirrored starburst used in the fifth window.  I’ve always been fascinated with the amazing holiday window displays around the world.  Every year I look forward to seeing what is featured.

The holiday windows at Bergdorf Goodman, a true New York spectacle, continue their renowned tradition of high fantasy, dramatic surprises, extraordinary fashion, and captivating storytelling. The 2012 windows, entitled “BG Follies of

2012,” are inspired by the lavish performances of American popular entertainment of the 1920’s and 30’s– the Jazz Age. The windows evoke the glorious era of Art Deco theater palaces re-creating the sumptuous atmosphere of the Ziegfeld Follies, the verve of Busby Berkeley’s Hollywood musicals, and the bounce of Vaudeville revues. David Hoey, Senior Director of Visual Presentation and his team devote an entire year to the roduction of the holiday windows. The windows will officially unveil on Monday, November 19th with one preview window Friday, November 16th. They will remain on display through Thursday, January 3, 2013…

… “The Mirror Kaleidoscope” is the Grand Finale of the BG Follies of 2012. Twin showgirls are presented downstage, while a colossal, rotating, mirrored starburst rotates behind them. The multiple layers of this starburst contain nearly one thousand individual beveled mirrors. Each successive layer of the starburst rotates in an opposite direction from the layer behind, creating an extraordinary kaleidoscopic effect. The mannequins’ matching gowns, studded in mirrors and rhinestones, were specially commissioned from Naeem Khan.

Berfdorf Goodman Holiday Window With The Mirror Kaleidoscope

This video by The Coveteur shows the making of the windows and gives you a view of the rotating mirror in action.

This video by Elizabeth Faraone is a slideshow of all of the windows (Acts). Notice the mirrored clothing on the mannequins in The Mirror Kaleidoscope window. Wow!

And finally, this video shows all of the windows including The Mirror Kaleidoscope.  The  adorable commentary will make you think you are in NYC in person.

Preserving The Past

I’m getting caught up on my video watching and found this video posted on Vimeo last week.  The video shows the process of glass conservation and preservation of The Righteous Shall Receive A Crown Of Glory stained glass window.

Righteous Shall Receive A Crown Of Glory, photo via Corning Museum Of Glass

The Righteous Shall Receive a Crown of Glory was created for the United Methodist Church of Waterville, New York around 1901.  The window was removed from the church and acquired by Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Randall, who in 1996 donated it to the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York.  At that point, it was in disrepair and in need of conservation treatment.

In July 2012 the window was secured in 14 custom-built crates at the Corning Museum of Glass and taken to the Neustadt Collection of Tiffany Glass.  Over the summer, it was restored by Drew Anderson, Conservator, Sherman Fairchild Center for Objects Conservation, The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

On October 12, 2012, The Righteous Shall Receive a Crown of Glory went on public view for the first time in decades at the Museum of Biblical Art.

Thank You, Barbara!
