2012 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

19,000 people fit into the new Barclays Center to see Jay-Z perform. This blog was viewed about 120,000 times in 2012. If it were a concert at the Barclays Center, it would take about 6 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

It’s The Season For Giving

Today I am looking at the season of giving.  Two of the best things in the world are giving and helping others in need.  Today you can do both with one small donation.

Do you have someone on your gift list that you are having a hard time finding the right gift for?  How about a last-minute gift?  Even better yet, spend that gift money that you receive from Santa on an investment in the future.  You know, pay it forward.

What I am asking is for your help in supporting Nadine Saylor in her quest, Crossing Borders: A Harbourfront Residency.  Nadine is currently raising $5,000 on Indigogo.com  to finance her artist residency at Harbourfront Centre, Sheridan College in Toronto.  What better way to give than to encourage and support Nadine in her quest for discovery.

I am looking towards this residency as THE ideal opportunity to launch my artistic career in a new direction, work on those ideas that have been at the tip of my fingers and to build a business that will sustain myself for the future. I am excited by the possibility for exchange of ideas with the numerous artists in the community in the Craft Department at Harbourfront Centre, Sheridan College and the Greater Toronto Area arts community.

With a very small investment, you could finish your holiday shopping in time to sit back and enjoy a stress-free weekend.  OR, you can pay it forward to a fellow human who wants to explore her creativity, skill, and the world.  Dont wait.  Donate NOW because there is a deadline.

Together, we can make Nadine’s dream come true.

IT IS FRIDAY!!!

Most of you will be taking the next week off to spend time with family and friends for the holiday.  I cannot end the year without letting you know how much your support means to me.  You keep me curious and excited and always wanting to do more.

So my friends, I thank you for your gift of support and encouragement.

I promise to support you in 2013 as much as you have supported me over the past 2 1/2 years.  LETS MAKE OUR DREAMS COME TRUE IN 2013!

Today I am looking at emerald glass.  By now I am sure that you have heard or read that  Pantone has named Emerald as the 2013 Color Of The Year.  Green glass will be perfect for adding emerald to any decor.

A Wreath That Will Last Forever

Today I am looking at a cute sea glass wreath made by Lynne Vigue of  Ocean’s Bounty shop on Etsy.  This cutie sold on December 2, 2012.  I hope the buyer currently has it on display in their beach home and that they will enjoy displaying it year after year.

…The wreath measures approximately 11 inches in diameter, and is not recommended for outdoor display.

Next summer when I’m at the beach, I’ll have to remember to collect green beach glass.

Start a collection. Create a forest of trees in clear glass. Outstanding and festive on a mantel, console, or coffee table during the holiday season, each tree is unique, like the majestic trees that inspired them.

The Vermont Evergreens are sold with or without bubbles and also with an LED light.

Holiday Window

Today I am looking at holiday window painting.  Bob Camache is a glass gilder and this video features him creating a beautiful holiday window for the Ben Sherman store in SoHo NY.  In an age of flashy, mechanized holiday windows, this window is beautifully classic.

IT IS FRIDAY!!!

For a lot of you, the holiday rush is starting to wind down.  I hope you are feeling successful in what you have accomplished.  Another year is coming to an end.  Now is the time to relax and dream BIG dreams for the new year.

I hope you have a happy, fantastic weekend.

I’ll see you back here on Monday.

A New Entryway

Today I am looking at a steel and glass entry fence by Jeffrey Gordon Smith Landscape Architecture via Houzz.

A dramatic new entry focal point was created with a steel and sand blasted glass screen designed to provide interest and privacy…The screen not only provides privacy for this interior garden but a backdrop to what could be an undesirable view off site while still allowing the important morning eastern light to enter the garden. At night, the screen’s dramatic lighting changes the outdoor mood with changing colors from simple romantic yellow tones to passionate pinks, reds and blues.

This Art Deco leaded and stained glass ceiling, circa 1930, was purchased at auction in France over 30 years ago. It features a geometric sunburst motif with orange, yellow, green, blue, cream, white and clear glass. Shown here in its last installed location, Welcome Home Cafe, on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in New York city in the 1970s. Includes all original 16 panels, each measuring approximately 20″ by 30″. Total size is approximately 8 by 12 feet including its original wooden frame. Thanks for visiting. Please let us know if you have any questions or comments. This ceiling is currently boxed and in storage in Manhattan and may be seen by appointment. We also have a set of Art Deco stained glass folding doors from the same original location.

Yes, please.  Do you think Santa could get this down the chimney?  Seriously, these panels would make a beautiful ceiling or wall display.

Soooo, I was lurking doing very important LAG research at Vimeo last night and came across a great rough cut video featuring Houston glass artist, Bill Meek. The video is by Michael Whitley.

I like the casual feel of the video and how Bill explains his history and the process of creating his art.
