Gone To The Dogs

Today I am looking at a fabulous 1930’s Hazel Atlas Dog Show Ice Bucket.

Yep, it is that time of the year.  It is time for the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.  Every year, I sit in front of the television and have a great time watching all of the dogs (and owners/handlers) show their stuff.  It is great entertainment.

And so dear readers, it is no surprise that I am smitten with this cobalt blue 1930’s Hazel Atlas Dog Show Ice Bucket that is available on Ebay.

Here is a video that shows the same series ice bucket.

And a set of glasses to go with the ice bucket would make the set complete!

Mutatie

Today I am looking at Mutatie (Mutation) by Bavo Tiebos.

I was looking at Pinterest last night and saw this interesting photo.  I was intrigued and wanted to learn more.  I took the Pinterest link to Bavo’s website but, I found little information about Mutatie other than a photo.  My internet searches to find information proved fruitless.

In searching for information about Mutatie, I was able to find a video that was uploaded to YouTube in April 2011.  The video showcases Bavo’s  recent glass sculptures.

Small Detail Makes A Room

Today I am looking at a mirror wall by architecture firm, Vgz(a).

I don’t usually cover projects by the same person or firm in one week but, I’ve had this photo in my mind all week.  I saw this photo when I was researching the Divide and Conquer blog post published Tuesday.  This mirrored bathroom wall has stayed with me all week and I am taking that as a sign that it needs to be shared with you.

The bathroom was created in 2005 for Club de golf Bosques, México by VGZ(a).  Don’t you love the mirror squares and rosettes used with the mirror wall?  I think it is a brilliant detail.   This small, well-designed detail packs a powerful punch!

IT IS FRIDAY!!!

Go out and have an adventure with your friends this weekend!

UPDATE:  If you live in the Northeast US, don’t go outside! Rather, stay inside and read a good book!

Have fun, stay warm, and I’ll see you back here on Monday.

Annah James talks Glass

Today I am looking at a new video featuring glass artist, Annah James.

I have shared Annah’s work with you in  previous posts, HERE  and HERE.

I like this video because it gives me the opportunity to hear Annah talk about how and why she became a glass artist.  Annah also shares her planning process and how she creates her pieces.  It is nice hear Annah talk so passionately about glass.

Residential Screen by Sarah Galloway

Today I am looking at a new residential glass screen by UK architectural glass artist, Sarah Galloway.  Not only does Sarah’s screen give this London home a lovely forest view, it has  created an opportunity to add beautiful artwork to the home.

“Created for a private residence, the illuminated external glass screen in Mayfair extends to the entire height of the rear elevation.  The abstract design provides both visual interest and ambient light in each level of the house.

I used a combination of coloured resin and deep sandblasting to ensure that the artwork creates a sense of space by giving a feeling of looking through a wooded bucolic scene. This concept is effectively enhanced through the use of backlighting, providing a perception of being in the countryside whilst in the heart of London.”

It is Friday!!!

I had a GREAT week.  I hope you did, too.

There are a whole lot of sports that I love to watch.  Football is not one of them.  I “watch” approximately one professional football game a year.  This Sunday will be that one game,  Super Bowl XLVII.  If you are a football fanatic, I hope the Super Bowl game is everything that you want it to be.

Have a CHEERful, FANtastic weekend and I’ll see you back here on Monday.

Custom Sliding Door, Part One

Today I am looking at a custom sliding door by Michael Huber Architects.

Well, actually, I will be looking at the first video of the fabrication of the steel for the colored glass door.  This video fits in great with my focus in 2013 on “the process.”

The video, Part One, shows sketches of the door (looks fabulous, don’t you think?) and then shows how the steel for the door is fabricated.  I hope it doesn’t take too long for Part Two.  I am anxious to see the finished door!

It’s Too Nice For Junk Mail

Today I am looking at Glasnost by Keilbach.

I found Glasnost while looking at photos from The International Furnishing Show, IMM Cologne 2013, posted on Architonic’s Facebook page.

I love the simplicity of Glasnost.  After looking at the product on Architonic’s website, I  went directly to the Keilbach’s website and found a glorious number of options for their mail and news boxes.

These cute little boxes would make me want to check my mail several times a day.

Outdoors or indoors, these mailboxes would dress up any home, building mailroom, or in the hall outside of an office space.

Thinking out of the box (ba-da-bing), I think that Glasnost would work great in your home to store small items out-of-the-way.  Think bathroom or kitchen storage…
