A Little Holiday

Don’t you think that we all deserve a little holiday every now and then?  I agree!

I’m taking today off for a little rest and relaxation.  I need to recharge my battery.

Don’t worry, I’ll be thinking of wishing for dreaming of looking at glass while I’m away!

Industrial Metal and Glass Furniture By Christophe Côme

Today I am looking at industrial metal and glass furniture by French designer, Christophe Côme.

Côme’s inspiration for designs range from architectural wrought ironwork to contemporary sculpture to objects found in nature. Starting with conventional iron, he shapes and defines the forms through texture and oxidation producing distinctive finishes. Côme pairs these objects with industrial crystal and molded glass lenses that he often transforms through carving, melting, and slumping. The metamorphosis of this raw industrial material through Côme’s stylistic vocabulary creates objects that transcend time.

Multitaction Music Table

Today I am looking at a Multitaction table made by MultiTouch Ltd. and used as an interactive DJ table at the Intel press event at CeBIT 2013.

This music table would:

A. Be an awesome glass desktop that would keep me from ever getting any work done.

B. Be an awesome glass table in a restaurant or lounge where people could gather to make music.

C.  Be an awesome way to use glass to be, well…awesome.

D.  All of the above.

Answer:  D. All of the above.

2D bar code MultiTouch music table was presented at the Intel press event at CeBIT 2013 in Hannover, Germany. CAVI application provides a musical exploration experience in which multiple participants simultaneously interact with a sound synthesizer by arranging a special set of markers on top of a multitouch table.

Glass Panels by Paul Messink

Today I am looking at thick glass panels by Paul Messink.

I’ve seen Paul Messink’s glass panels on Pinterest and Facebook.  Today, I am looking at the panels that he has available at ArtfulHome.com.  I love the depth that these panels have.  I want to touch them.

Glass artist Paul Messink creates multi-layered glass panels that reflect the natural world and exhibit incredible dimensionality. He is interested in natural elements such as trees, fences, and cemetery headstones which disappear into the distance, making viewers want to explore the landscape.

Messink’s panels are made of 9 to 12 layers of glass which are stacked together, then fused into a solid piece up to 1.5 inches thick. Portions of each image are hand-painted onto individual layers of glass with glass enamel. The finished piece can be displayed in a gallery stand, and looks spectacular when lit from behind.

Moving Through Time

Today I am watching a video by the Manchester Art Gallery Dancers.

Using the glass footbridge between the old and new buildings, the MAG Dancers creatively explore form and movement expression using light and shadows.

IT IS FRIDAY!!!

Why am I always surprised when I realize that it is Friday?  Where did the week go?  I remember when I was younger and in school, it seemed to take forever for Friday to get here.  Time slowly crawled along.  These days, I’m brushing my teeth on Monday morning and the next thing I know it is time to write a Friday blog post.

Guess what I will be doing this weekend?

I hope you can create something amazing this weekend.

I’ll see you back here on Monday

Rosewood Beading Adds Warmth

Today I am looking at the Fabric Warehouse project by Fearon Hay Architects.  Founded in 1998, Fearon Hay Architects is based in Auckland, New Zealand.  The practice is a partnership between Jeff Fearon and Tim Hay and was established to enable their combined involvement in the design and execution of each project.

A fabric importer has relocated to a 1960’s warehouse in Auckland’s city fringe.  The large, functional volume of the space is contrasted with detailing of fine rosewood beading, brass fixtures and bespoke steel and timber benches.

– Fearon Hay Architects

What I like about this project is the slight rosewood beading around the glass panels and doors.  The occupant gets the feel of open spaces with the use of glass but, the rosewood beading gives a hint of texture and warmth.

Hudson Loft

Today I am looking at Hudson Loft by SchappagerWhite LTD.

In the former American Express warehouse building, TriBeCa, NY two spaces were combined into a 3000 sq. ft. residential loft.  I like the attention given to details in this project.

Although the family wanted more storage, they also wanted their new kitchen to have a clean look, so Schappacher and his team put in a pantry right behind the kitchen. The left and right end panels on the backsplash have pivoting windows that open up into the hidden pantry space, allowing the family to pass items back and forth.

And the shower enclosure for this loft is pretty awesome, too! This custom enclosure was fabricated with old wire glass to help keep the old loft feel. Clever!
