Door Adds Mystery To Contemporary Home

Today I am looking at a gorgeous glass entry into an Arizona home.

It has been quite some time since I have seen anything other than clear glass used in  contemporary home design.  This beautiful home by Tate Studio Architecture has plenty of clear glass views of the Arizona landscape. What caught my eye was the front door entry glass. The glass adds a little mystery and blends well with the outside environment. I think that Tate did a great job in picking the glass for the entry, proving that cast or patterned glass DOES work in a contemporary design style.

Chihuly Drawing

Today I am looking at a video titled, Chihuly Drawing.

I’ve been watching a video, Chihuly Drawing, by Chihuly Workshop.  Watching a creative person work and the process or processes that they use is just so fascinating to me.  We all have our creative routines and outlets and each person is unique in that process.

Scan by Heather Hancock

Today I am looking at the Scan series mosaics glass by artist, Heather Hancock.

According to Heather Hancock, “My art is inspired by how people engage with information in the natural, manmade and social environments; finding patterns within noise is deeply rewarding. I am passionate about creating bold, contemporary compositions with glass which shift and shimmer with light and movement, bringing spaces to life.”

According to yours truly, Heather’s art is swoon worthy.  When I looked at the galleries on Heather’s website, I would see a photo and say” Ooh, I like that” and then I would go to the next picture and say “I like that one, too!”  And so on, and so on.  All the way through to the end.  I understand Heather’s sense of pattern and color.  I get it.  It clicks with me.  By the time I got the the Kitchen backsplashes gallery, I was completely hooked.

Today, I am very pleased to share Heather’s Scan 2.4 and Scan 4.1 mosaics with you.

Letter forms are inherently engaging to our pattern-detecting, information-decoding minds. Scan uses abstracted text from construction labels on my art materials, altering the aesthetic and information capacity.

The clients wanted the backsplash to bring color to their sleek new kitchen done in maple with black granite and stainless steel. A palette of orange, yellow and lime green with bronze and amber accents was selected. A surround of solid glass backpainted to match their home’s wall color catches light from large south- and west-facing windows and makes the kitchen gleam.

Reclaimed Stained Glass Gate

Today I am looking at a reclaimed stained glass gate that is shared by Archiverde Landscape on Houzz.com.

This stained glass window was purchased from an architectural salvage shop, then turned into a sliding gate by the fence/metal contractor.

I’ll just say it now…Yes, please.

Double-Duty Glass

Today I am looking at a beautiful shower wall that was installed by Brunelleschi Construction.

I like that one of the steam shower walls in this home does double-duty as artwork for the entrance to the master suite.  Now that is S-M-A-R-T!

We used one of our own original photograph, had it printed on glass (which we frosted), and used it as both a shower wall for the home’s master bathroom on one side and a focal wall for the master suite’s entryway on the other.

Split Spiral

Today I am looking at Split Spiral by Ray King Studio.

Split Spiral by Ray King Studio, is located at the USTAR Innovation Center, Utah State University, North Logan, Utah.  The sculpture was commissioned by the State of Utah Public Art Program.

Split Spiral is an exterior wall-mounted sculpture that consists of a metal armature of curved stainless steel pipes and holographic glass discs arranged in criss-crossing Fibonacci spiral pattern that wraps the South East corner of the façade of the USTAR Innovation Science Center.

The thick laminated glass discs are graduated in size from 4′ to 16″ diamater and aligned to the curved pipes. The refractive nature of this glass responds to sunlight, capturing and dynamically refracting light and chromatics, depending on the angle of light and the orientation of the viewer. The colors change as the viewer moves in space. The colors and materials will be exceptionally complementary to the zinc screen façade.

Red White and Blue Redo

Today I am looking at a Red White and Blue Redo.  This blog post originally published on May 25, 2012.  And, just so you don’t think I’m a complete slacker, I’ve added a Red White and Blue Glass Pinterest board to accompany this post.

It is Memorial Day weekend here in the United States. Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation’s service.  We also use this holiday weekend to celebrate the official start to summer.  We have picnics and enjoy outdoor activities with family and friends.  Red, white, and blue colors are displayed everywhere.  This bowl, available at Glass Art For Sale,  would be perfect for a Memorial Day celebration.

It is Friday!!!

What do mountains talk about?  A range of topics.

Where does the Lone Ranger take his garbage?   “To the dump, to the dump, to the dump, dump, dump To the dump, to the dump, to the dump, dump, dump…”

Why can’t you starve to death in the desert?  Because of all the sand which is there.

Why doesn’t the Gingerbread Man wear shorts? — Because he has crummy legs.

I hope your weekend is filled with sunshine and laughter.

I’ll see you back here on Monday!

Purple Glass

Today I am looking at purple glass.

258ec5ef26749ab6b7a8b12f107ab978

The trend watchers are saying that the color purple is trending.  Purple is the color of royalty.  Purple symbolizes power, nobility, luxury, and ambition. It conveys wealth and
extravagance. Purple is associated with wisdom, dignity, independence, creativity, mystery, and magic.

Hmm.  I’m suddenly feeling that I need more purple in my life!

It is  no surprise that gold is also trending as a metal finish.  Purple and gold make a very good match.

I have created a Pinterest board, PURPLE GLASS.  Take a look and enjoy.  If you use Pinterest and would for me to add you as a contributor, please email me or leave a comment and I will add you to the board.  If you don’t use Pinterst and have a photo of purple glass that you would like me to pin, send me a link to the photo or website.
