Today I am looking at a sad tale of vandalism and the loss of an original, one-of-a-kind window.
LINCOLN TOWNSHIP, Pa. —State police have been searching for a vandal who threw a large rock through an original stained-glass window at a Lutheran church in southwestern Pennsylvania.
Police think the window was broken Saturday at the 110-year-old Christ Casebeer Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lincoln Township, near Somerset
I don’t know how I missed The Shadow House by Liddicoat & Goldhill when it made the architectural and shelter blogs in 2012. I’m sure glad I saw it posted on Pinterest this week.
I’m all giddy over the wood handle on the awesome glass barn door. Nice detail. But hey, what about that sunroof? Do you think that window belongs to the homeowners and not the neighbors? Gulp, I hope so.
I created a Pinterest pinboard featuring various views of this room. Click on the photo to visit my board. If you aren’t familiar with Pinterest, just click on any of the photos and you will be taken to the website of origin. Have fun!
Today I am looking at a fun and creative project video, Fork You Window Project.
The information for this video simply stated, Making of New York City landscape. Artwork on glass at Fork You, A newly opened American Diner in Hauz Khas Village, Delhi.
I think it would be fun to have a restaurant with an artist or artists working to create a new artwork on the storefront windows every day/night. Talk about fun entertainment. If you were the owner or a waiter you would go broke because people like me would come and wouldn’t leave because I don’t want to miss the finished artwork!
I love these great looking nesting, coffee, and console tables that are available from Australian website, hardtofind. The tables are made with steel bases and printed Starfire glass.
A very powerful storm came through yesterday. The storm left my home without power for a number of hours. The power was out during the twilight hours into early night. My husband and I sat on our porch and talked and waited for our power to be restored. The slow progression from light to dark and the quiet stillness in the air made me think of grey glass. This morning, I am sharing my Grey Glass Pinterest board with you.
Today I am looking at using colored tumbled glass in a landscape project.
I like this project by Marpa Design Studio.
Marpa has over 30 years of experience designing and building the extraordinary. Our vision is to create landscapes of wonder, whether in the commercial or residential setting. Our gardens are entire in themselves: they may tell a story or create a journey, but they are always complete experiences. We do not try to do city planning or to decorate architecture. Instead, we create and build remarkable gardens that uplift and inspire, which set you loose from the mundane into magic.
Using colored tumbled glass as a decorative element in your landscape will look great AND will help keep those weeds from growing. Snap! If this size project is out of your budget, use glass mulch in your planters to add color on a smaller scale.
A modern, light-hearted garden that delights all the senses. The water-wise planting is vibrant with color and texture.
Today I am looking at The Cathedral of Christ The Light.
My glass buddy, Christopher Dobbins of Viz Glass, told me about The Cathedral of Christ The Light church in Oakland, CA. Christopher attended a baptism service at the church and knew that I would like this building. All I can say is, WOWZER! BTW, I’m using the word WOWZER so as not to offend and end up in the heavenly dog house.
This church has a very interesting history. The original cathedral was damaged in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. The building was so severely damaged that the building was razed 4 year later. The new cathedral was dedicated on September 25, 2008.
The Cathedral of Christ the Light is now intertwined in the legacy of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral. When Pope John XXIII established the Diocese of Oakland in 1962, he designated St. Francis de Sales as its first Cathedral. Originally built with funds from an Irish immigrant, Mrs. Mary J. Canning, the church had already served its growing population for many decades as a lively hub in central Oakland.

The Cathedral of Christ The Light is the first cathedral in the world to be built entirely in the 21st century. The cathedral was designed by, Craig W. Hartman, FAIA. The facade glass was a design/build project by Enclos and according to their website, the project included:
46,000 sqft of custom unitized curtainwall
6,000 sqft of point-fixed glass walls
10,000 sqft of custom metal panels
8,000 sqft of storefront
9,000 sqft of skylights
69,000 sqft of glass
1,028 units — each composed of 4.5’ x 10’ fritted glass — cover the 12-story domed structure, protecting the curved fur beams and 768 wooden louvers that pattern the interior surfaces to create a rib-like affect.

The Omega window depicts a 90 foot image of Christ in majesty taken from the transept of Chartes Cathedral in France. The image is created by natural light passing through aluminum panels that have been pierced with 94,000 holes.
Today I am looking at 2 custom glass screens at the Best Western Salutation Hotel, Ambleside, Cumbria, UK.
Best Western Salutation Hotel, Ambleside, Cumbria, UK
I received word from glass artist, Sarah Galloway, that she recently finished a hotel screen project in Cumbria. Sarah is one of the glass artists that I follow, that I know before I ever see a project, that it will be spectacular. The two glass partitions that Sarah created are simply beautiful.
The Best Western Salutation Hotel is located in the heart of the Lake District. It’s the beautiful lakes and fells that brings tourists to this lovely area. Now, the tourists will come to see the hotel suite with the sweet glass screens that Sarah designed and made!

Using a combination of hand applied coloured resins and deep sandblasting, I created two screens for The Helvellyn Suite at The Salutation Hotel, Ambleside. The larger screen measures 3m x 2m in size, with the smaller panel being 0.5m x 2m in size.

Thanks to Sarah for sharing this project with us. If you have a recent glass project that you would like to share, email me at patricia@lookingatglass.com.
I found these photos posted at The Yellow Cape Cod blog. I followed the link back to a fabulous Etsy Shop, Boots N Gus. I love idea of using vintage glasses to make repurposed lighting. I could not find these particular lights still for sale however, I would recommend browsing Jeff and Mark’s shop for some fabulous repurposed glass lighting.
Today I am looking at glass sculptures by glass artist, Stephanie Trenchard.
Pears, 2012, Stephanie Trenchard
Stephanie Trenchard‘s glass sculptures are simply amazing. I found this video interview with Stephanie on the Jane Sauer Gallery website and I found it very interesting. In the video Stephanie talks about her work and the process that she uses to make her amazing pieces.
IT IS FRIDAY!!!
It is POURING RAIN here in North Carolina this morning. The kind of downpour that floods the streets and makes you dread going outside. It is a good day to be a duck.

Have a great weekend. I hope you don’t have any FOWL weather.
My name is Patricia Linthicum and I love design. I adore creative function and form using glass. This blog is a place for me to explore and share glass used in interior design and architecture.
