Custom Glass Backsplash Goes Contemporary

Today I am looking at a custom glass mosaic backsplash in a contemporary kitchen.

McKinney York Architects built the beautiful Robbs Run Residence in Austin, Texas.
The custom glass backsplash was designed and installed by local artisan, Laura Garanzuay.

As an added thought today, I wanted to share this video. If you earn your living by being creative, I think you will relate to this video.

IT IS FRIDAY!

First of all, I cannot for the life of me believe that today is Friday.  Surely, I am living in some kind of a space time warp.  Truth be told, I have to check the calendar every day to make sure I know what month and day it is.  I think this is a good thing.  I am busy and working on ALL of the things that make me happy.   I hope you are, too!

Have a S-L-O-W and grounded weekend and I will see you back here on Monday.

Gloria Badiner Interview on WMUK Radio

Today I am looking at an interview by WMUK radio with glass artist, Gloria Badiner.

Okay, I listened to the interview and read the text.  Does that qualify as looking at glass?  I have always been a fan of Gloria’s glasswork and have enjoyed conversations with her over the past 3 years.  It is very special to hear her voice and listen to her talk with excitement about glass.

You can listen to the interview HERE.

You can view Gloria’s gallery HERE.

Southport Discovery

Today I am looking at metal and glass wall art by Drift Along Natural Designs.

I visited Southport, NC  this past week and found the cutest little gallery, Howe Outrageous.  If you have ever been to Southport you will remember how charming this little seaside community is.  Southport is southern charm on steroids.

I spent an afternoon visiting a number of antique and gallery shops and I knew I would love Howe Outrageous when I stepped from the sidewalk to the porch.

A great discovery at Howe Outrageous was the metal and glass artwork of Drift Along Natural Designs.

This Is What Happened…

I am back!  I really wanted to be back yesterday but, this is what happened…

tumblr_mjvf8fXUPn1qhm2mso1_400

You would think that after a few days off I would be well rested.  Not so much.  Yesterday, I turned the wake-up alarm off in my sleep.  I have no memory of doing this.  I checked and my alarm was set properly and was turned on.  So, it must have gone off.  I just don’t remember turning it off.  Has this ever happened to you?  Scary.  I have a real week-long holiday coming up in August.  I promise to  get lots of rest while I am away.

Speaking of holidays, how would you like to be a guest blogger at Looking At Glass?

  • Would you like to try your hand at blogging without setting up a blog to try it out?
  • Do you write a blog and would like to share a favorite blog post with the Looking At Glass readers?

Contact me and you can share wonderful things with the Looking At Glass community.*

Okay, just in case you were wondering if I was going to write about glass today…

I just pinned this lovely pressed glass candy dish suncatcher to my DIY and Craft board on Pinterest.  Isn’t it adorable?

A Clear Choice

Today I am looking at a clear glass fireplace mantelpiece.

I like the simplicity of this clear glass fireplace mantelpiece .  The cantilevered glass gives the painted brick surround a real modern feel.  This renovated San Francisco rental unit was completed by Jamie Snavley of InterDesign Studio.  This fireplace mantelpiece proves that sometimes less is more.

It’s Our Blogiversay!

Today we are celebrating the 3 year blogiversary for Looking At Glass.

b7da37e7daf42d2f19765b8d7cdd6b11

It is hard to believe that it has been 3 years since I published the very first Looking At Glass blog post.  Today is blog post number 758.

In the past 3 years, Looking At Glass blog has had a quarter of a million views.   Those views have come from countries around the world.  We all love glass and the beautiful things that artists, architects, and designers create with glass.  One of the stats that I can view for Looking At Glass, is what countries have viewed the blog.  I am always amazed at this list.  Here is a screen shot of what that list looked like yesterday.  I had to reduce the screen size to get a view of the whole list.  Trust me, each line on this list is a different country.

Wrapped Wire Sconce

Today I am looking at a unique modern wrapped wire and glass sconce.

I saw this Wrapped Wire Sconce on Houzz listed by Lamps Plus and decided it was worth a closer look.  I like the unique modern style of this lamp.  The round Borosilicate glass tube surrounding the light add a nice minimal touch.  The wrapped wire gives this sconce a handmade, crafted look.

Today I am looking at glass roof crests.

Have you ever seen glass roof crests?  Not me.  That all changed for the better, yesterday.  I found these rare and unusual glass roof crests available by Amy at Mixedsalad on Etsy.  I am smitten.

ANTIQUE GLASS FLEUR DE LIS ROOF CRESTING – AMBER
Roof cresting was once a popular form of ornamentation to residential and commercial buildings. These particular “glass tiles” have a dovetailed base that would have fitted a channel either on the ridge of a sloped roof or at the cap of a parapet wall of a flat roof.

How A Used Bottle Becomes A New Bottle

Today I am looking at the video, Secrets From The Recycling Plant: How A Used Bottle Becomes a New Bottle.

I found this NPR video on Vimeo.  I like watching all of the glass going through the sorting process. You could say it is SORT of interesting. [insert chortle]. Sorry, I couldn’t resist. I’ll shut up now and let you watch the video.
