When it comes to stylish glass decorations for the home, glass wind chimes are hard to beat. They have a stunning look, a beautiful sound, and offer an easy enhancement for any area they’re placed in. They’ve been sort of a best kept secret of home decorating, as there aren’t as many on the market as there are traditional metal chimes, so people don’t always know that much about them. Today, we’re going to go over some basics on glass wind chimes so you’ll know what to look for when considering one.

For the most part, you’ll find glass wind chimes in 2 varieties – those with glass in the piece at the top and those with glass for the actual chimes themselves. Sometimes a wind chime will have glass in both, but usually it’s one or the other. They each offer something different. With glass at the top, you can find fancy, colorful designs, like butterflies or flowers, which are great if you have a specific look you’re going for. With ones where the glass is in the body, you get the light sound of glass pieces bouncing off each other as the wind blows, giving you a different sound from the metal chimes we’re all used to. Both styles have their advantages, so it’s really just up to you to decide which you like.

Caring for a glass chime can be a bit more involved than other kinds. First, you’ve got to pick a good spot to hang it. Glass can be more fragile than metal when hung outside, so take care to place it in an area where it will get enough wind to make its sounds, but not so much that it may get damaged. If you purchased your chime more for looks, you might even consider hanging it indoors. This eliminates the worry of anything happening to it outside and will give you more opportunities to enjoy looking at it. If you do end up putting yours outside, make sure to bring it in during bad weather, like heavy thunderstorms.

Maybe you’ve done some shopping and just can’t find a glass wind chime you like. If that’s the case and you happen to live near the beach, then you’re in luck. Simply make one from some beach glass! Beach glass chimes have become very popular in recent years, both for the unique look they provide and for being a fun arts and crafts project. Just take a walk along the beach and you’re sure to find some colorful, aged glass you can put to use in a chime. All you have to do is make a frame for the top, find some string or fishing line to tie your glass to, and you’ve got a one of a kind wind chime for your home! There’s multiple ways to go about making them, so be sure to look online and find one to follow before you start.

Glass is a great medium for decorating and when you combine it with a wind chime you’ve got an accessory that everyone’s sure to enjoy. Let these tips be your guide and you’ll have a glass wind chime that looks perfect around your home in no time!
